Perched on the slopes of Séguret, to the east of the Dentelles de Montmirail, the 35-hectare Domaine de Mourchon produces A.O.C. Côtes du Rhône Villages Séguret red, rosé and white wines using organic farming methods.
The vines are mainly Grenache and Syrah, with an average age of 45 years, and produce low yields of between 20 and 25 hectolitres per hectare for the finest cuvées.
The vines were bought by the McKinlay family in 1998, who built a modern winery on the hillside to take advantage of the natural coolness. The microclimate of the hillside plots, on clay-limestone and grey marl soils, gives the estate a terroir of unique quality. Organic and biodynamic viticulture, combined with natural winemaking (little intervention by the winemaker) and long ageing, produce well-structured wines with a deep red colour and a rich, fruity mouthfeel.
Sébastien, the winemaker, comes from a family of Armagnac producers and studied oenology in Bordeaux. He has brought the terroir to the fore, producing wines regularly rated 90+ by the international press.
We look forward to welcoming wine lovers for a tasting in an idyllic mountain setting.
